In 1963, a parish priest in the Markham area recognized the need for a nursery school. He took the initiative to form an organizing committee, and after six months, they established a nursery school in the basement of their church.
Grace Church Markham Nursery School (GCMNS) was the first preschool program offered in Markham Village, opening in September 1963. A few years later Grace
Church MarkhamNursery School was incorporated and licensed by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. GCMNS continues to be affiliated with Grace Church and enjoys the supportive community at their location. With the recent government changes to child care, GCMNS is now licensed under the Ministry of Education as part of the Early Years Division. The school has come a long way and has enjoyed 50 years of meeting the needs of the Markham community with great success.
